As indicated in my post of Sept 8, I was focusing on two things for these pictures – a wide screen approach, which required a cropping of 16 x 9 and setting the dpi setting to 150 or higher.  All of these photos except #3 and #4 were taken with a Nikon 7100 DSLR.  #3 and #4 were taken with a Samsung Galaxy S9+ for the purposes of comparing effect of the dpi ratings.  All photos were imported into Adobe Photoshop Elements 2019 for the purposes of cropping, establishing the dpi and editing for color balance.  As Don says, these tools aren’t required, and I’m using it as an opportunity for me to expand my horizons using tools I haven’t used before.

  1. Aug 25, 2019, C&O Canal towpath, near Great Falls, MD.
    • Nikon 7100; ISO 200; 55 mm; 1/250 sec; f/8; 300 dpi; 12.2 MB; 6000 x 4000

2. Sep 7, 2019; Annapolis Sunset

    • Nikon 7100; ISO 200; 110 mm; 1/1000 sec; f/8; 300 dpi; 2.8 MB; 6000 x 4000

3. Sep 8, 2019 Annapolis Sunrise

    • Samsung Galaxy 9+; ISO 32; 6 mm; 1/536 sec/ f/2.40; 72 dpi; 1.4 MB; 3629 x 2041

4. Samsung Galaxy 9+; Sep 8, 2019 Annapolis Sunrise (same picture as #3 and converted to B&W thru photo editing software)

5. Sep 8, 2019 Annapolis Sunrise

    • Nikon 7100; ISO 200; 55 mm; 1/400 sec/ f/10; 300 dpi dpi; 3.6 MB; 6000 x 4000

6. Same picture as #5 with a bit more color enhancement – the color is now closer to that of #4. I prefer this color balance to #5.

I tested each of these on my own Lenovo widescreen monitor;  In summary, I liked the higher DPI pictures better, so I prefer the Nikon products.  I didn’t like the attempt at the B&W for a sunset picture – it felt too washed out.  I found the towpath picture to be my favorite – it was the most restful, although I’ll take being on the ocean over inland any time of day.
